3/2/2010 10:26 PM. You should buy 180mm. It would be much more comfortable for someone of your height. It's much more of a preference though. If your comfortable with the 175's you have now keep them. With 180mm, you would crank more, giving you a slightly faster speed. If your in the market for new cranks, just go for 180's.

I'm 1.95 meters tall and have ridden 180mm cranks for decades. Even when I raced road I used 180mm cranks because I felt best while riding this size crank. I tried 190mm cranks one time but they hurt my hip joint. 175mm cranks also work well but that 5mm does make a difference for me. This is such an individual experience topic.

Im probably getting 180mm profiles for my new custom, I was wondering if there's any pros or cons of 180mm cranks. I remember when I raced the longer the cranks were the faster you went, (up until a point). But is there anything else I should consider? I am 6'4 so 180mm cranks should go along well with my 21" frame and 8.6 rise bars. |

180mm cranks I am 6'3" and love 180mm cranks. 34.5" inseam so my legs are long. I raced BMX on 180's and was able to spin just fine so they rock MTB. A little added lever arm on my cranl spindle is awesome. Don't go long if you don't have long legs though.

BMX Crank Length Guide (165mm, 170mm, or 175mm?)

165mm. For shorter cranks, it takes more energy to produce enough force to always keep your speed up while pedaling. This is because when you have that shorter pedal rotation and less torque, it takes more energy to pedal the bike hard enough to equal the same amount of force as the 175mm cranks.
