    The 430ci Buick is one of those engines. Introduced at the same time as the 400ci engine in 1967, it was essentially a bored out version of that engine.     Buicks displacement jump from 430 to 455 was done with boring the cylinders ONLY. Chevy-Pontiac-Oldsmobile stroked their engines to get to 454-455 cubic inches. So bore the block out, and if it's a street ride, rather than a drag car...... use aftermarket cast pistons. Now that's how to get more bang for your buck !

If it is out of a 69-70 Electra (70 was a half year 430/455) it should be closer to 500lb-ft output at a very low stump pulling 2200-2500rpm.

    Located in two different spots- on 738 455's, and the early 400/430 it was here, on the passenger side of the front of the engine, next to the timing cover. On 861 71's and later blocks, it's in the lifter valley. That's all for block ID.. the next post in this thread will cover basic block inspection and prep for the machine shop.
