    Speedway Park came about because of the fact that Rowley Park Speedway in Adelaide was closing at the end of the 1978 - 1979 racing season, Work had already commenced on Speedway Park prior to Rowley Park closing. The ground was broken on the new site in Virginia in 1978 and carried on through to its opening date on the 2nd of November 1979.
