I have also mentioned that I run out of rpms in drive in a hurry meaning the car accelerates and so does the tach. The speedo only goes to 85 so I'm guessing here, but I feel like I hit 6000 rpms by about 105-110 mph. According to the math, 3.42s with a 26 inch tire should be about 2652 rpms at 60 mph. I'm at 3000.

The 3.42 gear is very popular and would work great for this. If your Camaro has the original rear end then you will have to replace the 2 series differential that you have now with a 3 series. You might as well go ahead and get a posi while you are at it. '69 RS/SS396 pro street/427/4spd/9".

If it’s a daily driver, chances are you’ll want to keep your gear ratio at 3.23 or below for optimal performance and lower cruising RPMs. For street and strip applications, a popular choice ranges between 3.42s and 3.90s, giving you that extra oomph on the track while maintaining a tolerable cruising RPM on the street.

As already stated, 3.42 will work. Its not optimal by any means. Maybe more so with the 5.3 but the 4.2 is pretty anemic on the torque down low. Now the 3.42 gears in my 3500 work just fine with the torque provided by the ISB6.7.

It'll still be peppy enough I'm sure. 3.42 gears would be good with an overdrive but push you into the 3k plus range at highway speeds with the th350. You'll have more low end grunt for sure but sacrifice top end and gas mileage. Really depends what you want to accomplish. Mine is a driver with a 450hp radical 350, th350 and 3.08 gears.
