Louisiana. Another consideration might be mile racing. 3.73s will limit your 5th gear speed to around 185 mph, depending on rpm and tire choice. 3.31s should get you 200+ mph. I'm running a 2013 transmission with 3.73s. I've been debating 3.90s and 4.10s back and forth to better match my cam's rpm range.

3.73 gears good at? | DodgeTalk Forum

3.73's are pretty much the middle of the road. They are not as torquey as 3.92 for in-town driving but will get you better gas milage on the higway. They are more torquey then 3.55's for in-town but not as good gas milage on the highway. The are pretty much " the best of both world's", torquey enough for towing and high enough to get good milage while while doing so.

Absolutely not. The quicker your car the sooner you'll run out of third gear at the track. 3.73 is a much better choice for an A4 if you plan on running fast. Current: HPR LS2 468 NA Build:609.50 rwhp 559.78 rwhp. ERL LS2 427 NA Build: 545.59 rwhp 478.47 rwtq.

What is better 3.55, or 3.73 gear ratio! And whats the diff.

4.10 is the smallest gear you can put in the 7.5 rear and the best for speed in that rear. Your first gear will be small if you have a 5spd, and most people say use 3.73's for 5spd because of that drivability 'issue' but i say 4.10 no matter what unless you are above bolt on power. so, 4.10 if auto 3.73 or 4.10 if 5spd

You will notice I hit the limiter in 1st in about 3 car lengths. 3.73's would make that about 2 car lengths. So 1st gear would be good for about 30'. Not sure that is really a performance boost. IMO 3.27's or 3.55's are perfect. Even with the 3.55's you may not be able to use full throttle with street tires in 1st or 2nd.

That being said, many folks have switched to 3.73/3.90/4.10 rear gears, but the biggest applicable reason is an attempt at going through the traps at an optimal RPM. There's a bunch of Terminator folks that manipulate rear tire height and rear end gear ratio to come through the traps at the most advantageous RPM.
