4.56 Gears...who has them? | StangNet

Apr 4, 2007 #2 I had 4.56s. They are fun around town, but you can forget racing unless you're on a full slick. I would roast 1st to 3rd almost every time, if I was shifting fast. First was soo short. I did get on the freeway a few times too. Not sure what RPM to speed it was, because I never got the speedo calibrated.

4.10 to 4.56 gears or maybe 4.88? - Hot Rod Forum

    https://www.hotrodders.com/threads/4-10-to-4-56-gears-or-maybe-4-88.40465/
My personal opinion: the 4.56 were better than the 4.88. If you just want to play on week-ends and bracket race go with 5.13 (absolutely useless on the street) unless you got lots of money for gas and tires.

Are 4.56 gears really this common? - Pirate 4x4

They are VERY common, especially in the 88-95 trucks and 4Runners watch for the axle codes, in those years it's normally for the 4.56's it's a g254 (4cyl gear) g256 (6cyl gear) axle code or you can also find the v-6/auto combination (gutless tranny) that came factory with a 4.88 from the factory (g144 axle code).

are 4.56 gears gonna be too much? | The Diesel Stop

    https://www.thedieselstop.com/threads/are-4-56-gears-gonna-be-too-much.78046/
4.10 would be slightly longer legs, better for unloaded highway cruising. 4.30 would be shorter legs, better for towing or more jump when unloaded around town. 4.56 would be a lot shorter legs - about equivalent to a 4.10 ratio with stock tires. 4.56 minus 4.19 = 0.37. 0.37 divided by 3.73 = 10 percent.
