I hope that made sense cause it does to me. EDIT: in other words, it is better to go to 6500rpm and shift because your rpms drop to say 4800rpm in the next gear. That is faster than shifting at 6000rpm and having your rpms drop off to 4300rpm and having to build from there vs 4800. Harder to go from 4300rpm to 6000rpm than 4800rpm to 6500rpm.

Just want to know where to shift at since i heard its better to hold out a little longer as fsi than tsi. (I am DSG if that matters) if you have a boost gauge, go until the boost starts to taper off.

If the cam has been changed than try about 500 below the max advertised rpm of the cam (i.e. if it says 1500-6500 than try shifting at 6000) I have had good luck (on a stock 5.0) shifting at 5000 1-2, and 5200 2-3/3-4. In my fastback I'd turn it 5500 1-2, and 5800 2-3/3-4. With the new motor in the 5.0 I buzz the motor 6000 1-2 and 6200 2-3/3-4

Answered 1 year ago · Author has 2.2K answers and 2.1M answer views For best efficiency, you want to keep the engine at its "sweet spot" of roughly 1,400 RPM in steady-state cruising. I normally upshift around 1,500 RPM. Of course, if you have an engine other than a Series 60 Detroit, you might want a different shift point. 172 views View upvotes

Torque peak is at 4500rpms i believe and hp peak is at 6k rpms, so you're missing out on both. Take it all the way to redline, I shift at 7200 (right before the rev limiter hits). That way when your in the next gear, you're already above 4k rpm. 1998 Camaro Z28 Lid, Exhaust, 4400 T/C, Free mods 302whp/310wtq, unlocked T/C

In my diesel van that transports the bike to the race-track, I’m usually shifting up around 2500 rpm, maybe 3000 if I’m joining a big road with hard accelleration. This engine doesn’t like high rpm, and gives maximum torque at 2200 rpm. It really depends on what engine it is, but also what you are trying to achieve.
