Yes, you can use the paddles to shift (set transmission to sequential in options) and an assigned button on the wheel as a handbrake. Depending on the wheel rotation setting, this might not be very comfortable though. You should be mostly fine with 540°, but if you choose to enable soft lock with 900°, then some things might get difficult.

Do I need an H-Shifter or a Clutch pedal : simracing - reddit

    https://www.reddit.com/r/simracing/comments/391ccz/do_i_need_an_hshifter_or_a_clutch_pedal/
Thanks! It's never required. Clutch and h shifter are about fun in simulating a driving experience. If you don't want that and are a person who derives fun from the competition of racing, then you're best to ignore them. You'll always be slower if you use h-shifter+ clutch compared to the guys who just paddle shift.

No. The lack of a shifter usually means the lack of a clutch pedal (or at least the lack of a need for one), because shifting with paddles automatically engages the clutch. If you're in a real car with paddles, the car probably won't have a clutch pedal, which is also why many games don't let you use a clutch with paddle shifters. -1. level 2.

Every game will offer manual shifting, as long as the car you’re driving offers that type of gear box… in the racing world, h-pattern is a dying method… most are sequential (push/pull stick) or paddle shifter. Make sure to decide if you need a h-pattern based on cars you drive.

As stated above, you can play without a steering wheel, and you can be good with. I know of someone who do it because he has disabilities that prevent him from using a racing wheel and pedals. But to me it breaks the immersion... The same way I'm using a flight stick for flight sims, and not mouse/keyboard or pad, even if it is doable...
