Yes, wiring can pass through a panel without needing to have any electrical connections to it, according to the National Electrical Code (NEC-312.8). But the additional wiring cannot make the box become overpacked [NEC-312.8(A)(1,2)], and a warning label must be applied to the enclosure that identifies the closest disconnecting means for the ...

Apr 1, 2009. #3. [email protected] said: Does anyone know the code section, if it exists, that pertains to using a panel as a raceway, or something to that affect. I was recently on a jobwalk where I noticed that the electrician routed a feeder from a ATS into a pump control cabinet and exited the cabinet after making a U-turn with the feeder.

I considered taking one 10" long 1 1/4 nipple from the old panel A to new panel A and then a 16" nipple between new panel A and new panel B. I wanted to pass the new wires for new panel B through new panel A and back to the original panel which is a j-box now. I was told I can't use a panel as a raceway, 312.8 seems to specifically say it is okay.

I could see it being used as a raceway if the conductors in question originated from the overcurrent devices in that panel,,, but not from a seperate source. For Example, lets say there were 2 seperate disconnects outside and 2 MLO Panels inside.Panel #2 Feeder runs through panel #1 and panel #1 needs to be changed out.

Member. Have a job that requires "swapping" of circuits from one panel to another. Past experience tells me that one must remove said circuits entirely from panel enclosure as it is not permissible to use a panel or disconnect enclosure as a raceway for other systems. I got to looking at 300.3 4C and 312.8 and it would seem to cover panel board ...
