    In many cases compact 50/34 works better for racing unless you are a Pro or Cat 1 finishing with 30mph+ sprints. I find the 50 is great for flat races because I ride mid to bottom of the cassette and in hilly races I ride mid to upper cassette and do not have to make as many front chain ring shifts.
