The d1-A frame specs listed are the same as the 15 series. The 15 and 16 series are similar in that they both employ the A frame, but the hybrid X bracing on the 16 series is closer to Martin's standard bracing, with scalloping added. In the pics above, the left is the 16 series hybrid, the right is the 15 series bracing. They are quite different.

That's why you can't see the difference by simply looking into the soundhole. The lower priced "1-series" guitars, such as D-1 and DM, have a simpler "A-frame" bracing system, which is different in every respect except for the main truss, the ubiquitous "cross …

The early D-1 and D-1R used it, as did subsequent 15 Series and 17 Series guitars. The 17 Series dropped the A Frame bracing with the new 2016 models and now pairs the Simple Dovetail with traditional bracing. As far as I know, that leaves only the 15 Series using the A Frame bracing - as far as Nazareth-made Martins are concerned.

Bracing, which refers to the internal reinforcements on a guitar’s top and back, serves two primary functions: it keeps the guitar from collapsing under string tension and it shapes the guitar’s sound. Top bracing is perhaps the single most important factor in determining what a guitar will sound like.

Even the accurate information can be of little use. While Martin is understandably proud of having invented the X-bracing that has been copied by every steel string guitarmaker on earth, it is meaningless to someone looking at the spec sheet of a Martin guitar to see “Bracing Pattern: X Bracing,” when every Martin guitar made today has an X brace.

Guitar Bracing | Taylor Guitars

This helps translate the air movement produced by the vibrating guitar strings and soundboard into volume, sustain and other musical properties.
