Using an additive like Lucas can be very beneficial. E-85 offers a compromise between gasoline and alcohol- it has approx 105 octane, so it is resistant to detonation, runs cooler than gas, and uses approx 120% as much as gasoline. It makes a great street injection fuel if jetted correctly.

Blends of alcohols can be tested to determine what is called a “Blending Octane Value” or BOV. Basically, the octane rating of an alcohol/gasoline blend is compared to the octane rating of the gasoline without alcohol and some math is done to calculate what the effect of the alcohol was on the octane of the gasoline. Thus, a BOV is determined.

Race Fuel Storage - Sunoco Race Fuels

Perfectly stored, most race fuels will last more than a year. If you are not sure you can use the fuel up within 2 years, add a quality fuel stabilizer to the fuel as soon as you purchase it. Fuel stabilizer can only postpone fuel degradation; it can’t fix fuel that’s already bad. Try to avoid putting additives into fuel unless they are needed.

Methanol DOES go bad. Trust me. I race sprint cars and they run off of methanol. If it is more than 3 months old I wouldnt run it. A good way to tell is by smelling it. Fresh methanol will burn your nose and eyes if you smell it. If it doesnt burn your nose when you smell it, it has def gone bad. Save.
