    It recommends a 20W40 for temps above approx 40F and a 10W30 below. Rotella is not an "energy conserving" oil ... it has no friction modifiers and does not carry the API "starburst" emblem that is commonly seen on automotive oils. The only 20W40 I'm aware of is Yamaha's "Yamalube" oil. Coincidence?

    Motorcycle oil discussion. For years and years, I've been using Shell Rotella T6 diesel oil in my bikes, my cars, my lawn mower, on my pancakes, and even as sex lube.     Only show this user. --. I've probably got 170,000 miles on 2 Yamaha Road Star 1600s and have used that Rotella T6 15w-40 all the time. The bikes don't burn oil, start every time, and usually get 50 mpg each tank of gas. Even when there's no rebate going on, it's still only about $22.00 per gallon.
