    Doug was just eight years on when he started racing locally, before moving to quarter-midgets at the age of thirteen. He started his full ISMA career in 1978, taking Rookie of the Year honours and becoming the youngest driver ever to win a feature race at Oswego Speedway. Between 1980 and 1983, Doug won 27 out of 33 races at Oswego.
