I've heard its easier to build boost with a 2nd gear launch but It seems to me this would be very hard on the converter, just looking input-advise. I get 3.7 to 3.9 on the street launching in 2nd. At the tracking I use first gear. In second I flash the converter at 1100 rpm and roll into it manually shifting it. I would recomend going to the track as often as possible and learning what it takes to launch your car. My method is to hold about 3-3500 and slip the clutch out very quickly while maintaining the rpm. When the clutch id fully engaged the right pedal goes to the floor as long as its not spinning. Unless you have a full manual valve body even if you select 2nd on the line you're still in first. The governor will just shift it to second. With a full manual valve body, if you select third from a stop, you'll take off in third. Same for 1st and 2nd. If you stop form 3rd and let the shifter in 3rd, that's where it is, still in third.

There are a number of races launching from second and they really don't want to discuess what they are doing and don't want to give away any advantage they may have. I think the OP is talking about launching in 2nd gear instead of 1st. (not burn out)I think it would kill your 60fts resulting in slower times and a hot trans.JMO your just trying to wear out the trans leaving in second and as petty said killing your 60ft. if you want to run slower and less wear and tear reduce timing or even a throttle stop.
