foot brake racing by davidthe2 » Sun Jul 08, 2007 3:21 am How do you hold the car on the line with the footbrake if your engine is jammed up against the converter. Can this be done with a 600hp small block at 6000 converter or do you have to hit the gas at the same time. It seems a lot to ask of the braking system Any answers af2 HotPass

Up until recently, my routine has been to approach the beams at idle, bump in to light the second bulbs, then feed throttle to launch rpm. Problem is, a quick tree can cause the process to be rushed and break concentration. I noticed some footbrakers set launch rpm once pre-staged or sometimes even earlier while approaching the beams.

“A lot of the footbrake guys will complain about having to race guys with an adjustable button, because they think it makes you go .00 on the tree every pass. Some even think you can leave on the top bulb, but you can’t. Each bulb is half a second, and the buttons have, at most, a tenth of delay in them.”

You're barely above idle, that means that once you release the brake and nail the gas, your car has to wind up and shock the tires to move forward. the best way to leave on the foot brake is have the car preloaded, with as much as you can hold with the brakes, this way the car is already to leave when you release the brake.
