A new BDR in town is running a 342. His first time at the 1/4 mile last night (with any car). Spun like crazy trying to get off the line and figure out how to hook up, ran a pretty slow ET as a result. But heres the kicker, his trap speed was 113 mph. What that tells me is the motor is still making awesome power at the end of the strip.

I understand that there are 342/347 stroker kits out there with both 5.315 and 5.400 length connecting rods. I also understand that the shorter rod is required if you want to have a piston whose pin does not intersect to oil ring. Other than that is there any other issues with one rod length vs the other? The idea of the 342 is a stroker with a new block……..gives you the option of another rebuilt in the future without going the standard 30 over. I don’t know of many engine shops who wont insist you bore 30 over on a rebuilt. So the question is do ya have a new block lying around or most likely using your old block.
