Rim is not machined (mildly irritating, you feel the bump) These are perfect training wheels. They roll smoothly and true out of the box. Weight is not crazy heavy, 1800+g. There is some drag on the freewheel when coasting but hopefully that eases in time. The only real caveat is …

    https://road.cc/content/review/fulcrum-racing-5-wheelset-288083
Fulcrum's Racing 5 is a good winter and training wheelset. A step up from the cheapest alloy upgrade wheels, they offer enough performance for a satisfying ride without setting the world alight. But if you're aiming to look after your best carbon rim brake wheels, the Racing 5s are strong options for mucky riding. Verdict

Within the Racing range, the 5 is the general-purpose road wheelset. They're a reasonable weight for the money – we weighed them at 1,640g compared to a claimed 1,610g – which makes them competitive with similar-priced wheels from Hunt and Kinesis, and usefully lighter than Mavic's Ksyrium Disc wheelset. > Find your nearest dealer here

the wheels look the part and are very strong and reasonably stiff. ( i weigh 85kg/187lbs) however the pair i got had a very poor rim join that was vertically out of alignment and it had to be machined flat as well. one of the big points fulcrum make is how well balanced the wheels are but they arent. they make a pretty obvious out of balance …

    https://road.cc/content/review/fulcrum-racing-5-db-wheelset-288255
The Fulcrum Racing 5 Disc Brake wheelset is strong and durable, designed for year-round miles. The new wider rims pair nicely with on-trend wider tyres, and they now also come taped ready for tubeless and with valves to boot. They have gained some mass over previous iterations, but they ride and handle well.

Fulcrum Racing 5 is a great medium-weight wheelset that handles well, providing plenty of road feel. Braking is good, although a fully machined rim surface would provide smoother modulation. They're durable, and well suited for training rides and long miles, even under a heavier rider. At their listed price point, they are hard to beat. Value 5

#2 You'll get different opinions of course, and bear in mind i'm a cynic of almost anything and everything... IMO, you only 'feel' very subtle differences, if any. I have the 5s, love them, don't regret buying them, excellent VFM...but, has my average speed increased since i got them...no...well maybe a tad.
