The two larger back braces in Golden Era style are wide and semicircular in stead of the pseudo triangular braces. That is the most over simplified answer I can give.

Both the 000-28GE and the 1995 D-18 Golden Era predate the reintroduction of red spruce to the Martin catalogue, so they had Sitka tops and Sitka braces. However, I believe JA is referring to the use of Sitka spruce as the typical brace material for production starting sometime after WWI and continuing through to the mid 40's when Sitka replaced red spruce entirely.

Roughly, the "golden era" would be late twenties into the forties. I have two OM-18V customs with forward shifted Golden Era bracing, and this also involves different bridge plates. Martin was somewhat vague on what it meant, said they knew what I was after and to specify "X-Brace to be slightly forward shifted" in the special instructions.

The bridge plate is 1 11/16" instead of the 2" plate on Standard and Vintage Series guitars. Vintage belly bridge Martin plates were 1 3/8". GE bracing has the modern tall back braces and L-shaped neck blocks.

The Science Behind Martin Guitar Bracing Structures

    1) The intersection of Golden Era’s scalloped X-bracing is not a circular section, but a flat section, as in the case of conventional cutting, so that more direct contact with the wood can be added to increase the feedback of the guitar. 2) Golden Era scalloped cuts more material. 3) Golden Era scalloped is hand cut with a finer angle of cut.

Martin OM-28V OM-28 Marquis Differences - One Man's Guitar

The Marquis has what they call Golden Era style bracing. You really have to look at the two braces side by side to get a clear understanding, but they use different angles when carving the braces, taking off more wood for the Marquis than the Standard, and the longer tone bars and X brace get wood carved off the strut all the way up to almost the center of the brace.
