Diff between sports and racing tires? - Gran Turismo 5

A soft tire will provide you the maximum grip, but it won't last very long compared to a harder tire. The only time you have to worry about tire wear is in some B-Spec races and in A-Spec endurance races, so basically if you have a car that you plan on using for a number of races, buying a set of soft racing tires is a very good investment.

Sports tires give more grip than Comfort, and Racing tires give more grip than Sports. As for hard, medium, and soft; Hard tires will last longer but they take longer to heat up to the right temperature to give you the best grip you can achieve with the tires, and they don't provide as much grip as Medium or Soft.

tire wear (endurance races) - Gran Turismo 5 - GameFAQs

The downside of putting harder tires on the rear of a RWD vehicle is you tend to eat up the rear tires faster, due to the difference in grip between the front and back causing more wheel spin and oversteer. Use the same tires on the front as you do the rear to keep the balance of the car more neutral, and just pit when the rear tires wear out.

gran turismo 5 - Are hard tires ever better than soft ones?

    https://gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/42250/are-hard-tires-ever-better-than-soft-ones
In Gran Turismo 5, each tire type comes in three different compounds (hard, medium, soft). Softer tires have better grip but wear down quicker. This seems to suggest that in some long races, harder tires are better. However my personal experience is that the difference in durability is minimal, something like 10%.

Sport soft vs. Racing Hard, which one has more grip?

    https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/941103-gran-turismo-5/57777530
Scatt3h 11 years ago #9. Racing hards will last longer than mediums or softs as long as you aren't driving like a blind monkey. Racing hard and pushing the car will wear any tires much faster than they should. Softs will get gripier sooner but will wear quicker, hards take longer to get their full grip but will last longer.
