    As for length, keep them as short as possible but long enough to operate the car. They should be worn below the elbow. Some driving suits have them sewn in with rings. A lot of us road racers sew some velco to out suit to hold them in place since they tend to slide down to the wrist during the 30 minute races. Hope this helps. Stay safe!

    So I can 1) put on the whole assembly and hook everything up at once - belts and restraints, or 2) hook up the strap only when hooking up the belts, and then later snap the strap to the arm band, or 3) hook up the straps while attached to the arm band, but not on my arms yet, then later slide the arm bands on over my hands and up my arms.

    The arm restraints will clip in where your OEM belt latch is. You need enough room on the buckle to slide a metal O-ring over the buckle and still be able to insert the buckle into the latch (about 1/8 inch thickness on the O-ring).
