Side-to-side 2"x2"s between opposite sides in large areas that are undamped would be good, but wedging them in means you'd have to round the ends, spread or bend the speaker walls, or leave a gap you could only take up by screwing the bracing tighter from the outside to bow in the sides.

Re: Internal Bracing? Thick walls minimize (large) panel flexing, but it's WAY more efficient (from a materials use perspective) to run about 3/4"-1" square or round (dowels) material from side-to-side between large panels. I don't bother bracing small boxes. The "knuckle test" should tell your ears whether your bracing is sufficient or not.

So a very stiff cabinet is a much better solution for a bass speaker. 2) soundstage wise, it is extremely important that the front baffle stays still, that it does not vibrate back and forth in respect to the listening position. Therefore a very thick and stiff front baffle is a must for a good soundstage rendition.

Re: Internal bracing - bookshelf Bracing is a cumulative effect, but with diminishing returns. The one I'd add is front to back, between woofer and mid/tweet or next to the woofer in your case. It damps the reaction to cone acceleration as transmitted through the speaker basket to the baffle.

Internal Cabinet Bracing Question | TalkBass.com

I've seen recommendations that bracing be no more than 8" apart when using 1/2" ply. I plan to use 3/4" dowels for bracing. I just don't like the idea of so many dowels running from the baffle to the back - it gets messy trying to work around the speaker. I'm thinking of using thicker wood for the baffle and back.

The pulse width is 60 mS (between the green lines) Same position and scales as above but cabinet is braced in two directions, side to side and front to rear. The two traces are very similar with exception that this pulse width is 53mS, 7 mS less than the undamped trace. Back to the loudspeaker main page

Here is my basic bracing guidelines: 1. Keep unbraced spans appropriate for material used. (Under 10"-12" for 3/4" MDF/Plywood) 2. Brace across to opposite panels when possible, otherwise brace to adjoining panel. 3. Minimize bracing in corners where it is un-needed. 4. Take up the least amount of ...
