It takes time to get a good 9 rarity chocobo (you have to level 8 other chocobos to level 40 iirc) and thats when each race gives you like 1.1K mgp. I'd say go with the botany minigame if you don't...

MGP for racing could indeed be a good bit higher (one imperial TT match is 30s and 90 MGP, while the shortest chocobo race needs 3min...). If you would feed your chocobo the better food... just forget it. Chocobo Racing is a MGP sink, no way to earn it.

The higher the breed your chocobo is the better stats it has also the better stats it has the higher race rating you can enter which has more mgp awarded. You also wouldn't be able to beat the challenges which is one of the reason why chocobo racing is better to farm for fenrir. 1 level 1 · 6y

U can use my tool https://chocobobreedcalculator.herokuapp.com/ to help you with breeding. Also to be noted they added chocobo racing challenges that give a total of 500k MGP. Its a one time only reward but still well worth. That reward will offset the investment on your bo's as well since you will spend from 200-400k MGP on feeds etc.

Part of the problem is that Chocobo racing isn't only an MGP fountain but also an MGP sink. You're turning around and spending the MGP that you're making on progressing in the mini-game. With Triple Triad, you can use your cards to get more cards and progress without spending a single MGP. Chocobo racing should have a similar progression.

You need to remember that your success depends on your chocobo's own growth by pedigree and stars, plus his/her ratings at a race... Since the last big patch, stamina consumption caused by briars and stuff hurts ALOT, so its not a wonder placing last would be rather common sometimes. However this is based on what you put into races as well..
