No offense but the fastest drag cars are rwd. When launched right there is no spinning of the tires. So depending on gearing rwd and awd is the closest. Fwd has no advantage in a standing start drag race unless it is geared better and that will only come into play in longer distances. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy SIII using Tapatalk 2 Modded Pathy

Why isn't AWD/FWD more popular in drag racing? - Quora

FWD just flat doesn’t work very good at all for drag racing. Weight in the car shift to the rear and off the front tires at acceleration. FWD cars with any power just cant get the power to the ground because they cant get the cars weight to be over the tires driving.

It'd just be more complexity and weight for no benefit. FWD is a complete non-starter unless you're deliberately limiting yourself, it's inherently bad for drag racing because of the weight transfer away from the driven wheels. level 2 ThatsALiveWire Op · 1 yr. ago Street cars Continue this thread level 1 shaggy4dub · 1 yr. ago

I'd imagine that the reason why AWD trails behind RWD in a straight drag race is because of the extra weight and complexity, and thus friction in the drivetrain eating up HP. Around a track I'd see the AWD car coming out ahead giving everything else is the same. FWD would be last. FWD is always last Depends on the race length.

RWD vs. AWD vs. FWD: Which Drivetrain is BEST? – Ideal

This is where FWD wins hands-down because the engine, transmission, and driveshafts are all just one package. That means that manufacturers can build 90% of the car and then just drop in the entire powertrain all at once. Not only does it keep manufacturing simple, but it keeps the entire structure of the car a lot simpler.

In a racing application, it has some advantages. They typically have slightly less drive-train loss, as there is no drive shaft needed from the transmission to a rear differential. It is also slightly lighter as a result of this same fact. As a disadvantage, you're using the same wheels to propel the car as you are to turn.
