If ray tracing is important to you use a Windows partition. Linux also doesn’t support DLSS which is an even bigger issue tbh. -2 level 2 · 9 mo. ago Linux 100% supports DLSS in the proprietary Nvidia driver. It's just that it's not working in vkd3d-proton yet. 7 level 2 · 9 mo. ago DLSS in the nvidia driver since 450.57, we're on 465 now. 2

While Ray Tracing has been available on Linux with NVIDIA for a long time now, the open source RADV Mesa driver for AMD GPUs is lagging behind but more work is progressing on it. Developer Bas Nieuwenhuizen put up a new blog post jokingly titled "World's Slowest Raytracer" to show how far it has come. It's worth remembering, that AMD RADV is not the official AMD …

Ray Tracing is on Linux yes, has been for a long time but as always, it depends on per-app support and currently NVIDIA-only. Work is underway to add in vendor-neutral extensions into Vulkan to allow Ray Tracing across NVIDIA/AMD/Intel.

Since The Khronos Group formally released the cross-vendor Vulkan Ray Tracing specification back in November it makes it all possible. Hooking up Ray Tracing for VKD3D-Proton, it will be using those new extensions. Having DirectX Raytracing working on Linux for Windows games in Proton sure does sound pretty big.

You have two options for ray tracing on Linux. The Quake II RTX demo, and Wolfenstein Youngblood. No Direct X 12 game is likely to work with ray tracing in Wine/Proton any time soon. Wolfenstein Youngblood works because it's Vulkan, and doesn't have to use vkd3d. That said, a 3060 Ti isn't going to be very good as a Ray Tracing GPU.

The catches for RT support on Linux are as follows; AMD support is lack luster, and slow. DX12 through Proton and WINE currently do not fully support ray tracing. You can track progress on VKD3D at their github. Any Vulkan RT should work on Linux as native. 2 Reply Share ReportSaveFollow level 1 · 7 mo. ago
