    The scalloped bracing (done in the 1930's) was discontinued due to problems with tops coming up with certain heavier strings and was discontinued after WWII. The regular "X-bracing" held until this very day but you can still get many Martin guitars with scalloped bracing, it just costs more but what a difference in tone!
