Then you have the cost of labor to remove / replace heads, cost of gaskets, etc.... I think most shops charge somewhere around $100 an hour for labor.

    There were two versions of the HP 500 carbed. The HP500 Bulldog was the 540 ci and was indestructable. The HP500 was a 502 ci and suffered valve spring problems after a couple of hundred hours. New springs, and they were a great motor. The 500 EFI had far fewer valve problems. All were rated at 470 hp.
