Powerglide or turbo 350 - Team Camaro Tech

The PG has a 1.76 first gear, the TH350 has a 2.52, which makes for better acceleration in a street car. Guys that use the PG for racing usually have enough horse power and race axle gear ratios that will overcome the PG gearing. 1968 327 sport coupe. Son of …

Powerglide is lighter and usually the racers choice, however if I were running an automatic and on a budget I would run the t350. They are plentiful and cheaper. t350: 1.52 with a 4.11 gear. Powerglide (the 1,82 version) with a 3.42 gear. Dave Silva 1,446 Registered User Apr 27, 2007 #3 I like a glide because they leak less.

A low powered street car will run & drive much better with the TH350, plus it'll shed 75 lbs. As noted, gliders work great for high power, high stall, purpose built drag cars. IMO in a 283 street car they'll make an otherwise peppy car feel like a slug. Shifty Shifterton, May 13, 2008.

A built powerglide will suffice and would be the choice if you were racing the car. A turbo 350 is all you need and is lighter than a 400 trans. At 350 hp you should not hurt a turbo 350. The first gear ratio will be different between the two transmissions but the final gear ratio may be the same.

350 turbo vs 2 speed powerglide - Hot Rod Forum

A Turbo 350 has a lower first gear ... so that can be a plus ... Turbo 350 ... 2.52 X 4.10 rear axle= 10.332. Power Glide ... 1.78 X 4.10 rear axle = 7.298 ... so you would have to run a 5.80 gear in the rear with a PG to have the same overall first gear as a Turbo 350 with a 4.10. You be the JUDGE !!

1st gear ratio in a TH-350 is 2.52 to 1 1st gear ratio in a powerglide is 1.76 to 1 I think the second gear in a th-350 is close to what the first is on the powerglide. They both have the same final gear @ 1 to 1 If you have a heavy car you may need the lower gear for take off.

A two-speed Turbo 400 goes 1:1 at the shift point, and this, Beattie Jr. explains, is less of a gear split than any high-horse Powerglide (the lowest drop on a Turbo 400 is 0.28, while the ‘Glide is 0.62). Big-tire racers, in particular, like the close-ratio setup of a three-speed, because the lack of RPM drop allows them to keep the tire ...
