    It's used for pressurized plumbing able to withstand 280 lbs of pressure at 73 degrees F; schedule #40 (if I remembered). They are not of the cheap thin kinds so stay away from those. ABS can be used but is much more brittle than PVC and cracks easier. In comparison, ABS pipes flex more than PVC as well.
