Assume that the airbox is NOT replenished- you just have to suck air out of a sealed airbox with no inlet hole (we'll look at one revolution, of course) a 12.5 liter airbox = ducati 999. at 1 atmosphere pressure- suck 500cc into your intake, leaves ~ 0.96 atm in the box. pull another 500cc intake, and leaves ~ 0.92 atm in the box.

Posts: 12. In general terms, any time you have an air breathing engine, you want to get an optimum amount and quality of air to mix with the fuel during the combustion process. It is, therefore, the function of the air box to provide the air needed for the combustion. Some factors that affect your design are how "clean" is the airflow, what is ...

The air box would be sealed to the underside of the hood. After all that, my question is, "Is the average height of 4" of the plenum above the carb to the hood adequate? Most of this will be fiberglass construction so it will be easy to add a radius at the bottom or top of the air box to eliminate 90 degree corners if that would help.

The next step is to go to the track and go fast! The do-it-yourself cold air box was a success. Made with a piece of aluminum, thermo tape and weather stripping, it is lowering air intake temperatures on our Honda Challenge car. The whole project only cost about $50 in materials and took a single afternoon to create.

The design principles are based on Bernoulli's equation. You use the velocity of the air from from forward speed to increase the pressure and hence mass of air at the inlet to the throttle bodies. Airspeed and pressure are inversely proportional. ie for a fixed volume (Your induction box), you slow the air down, you will get a pressure rise.

Technology explained: F1 airboxes & filters - Racecar ...

The air intake and airbox is one of the most distinctive features of a modern F1 car. Situated just above the driver’s head, the oval-shaped air intake hole dictates not only the shape of the engine cover but also the flow of air into the engine. In this latest feature from Renautsport F1 we explain what it does in detail, but also what goes on underneath the bodywork and inside the engine.

The air intake question boils down to 3 options: 1) The duct through the grille shell, 2) A duct along the hood (like on the 357 car and others), or 3) A duct picking up air in back of the radiator. The basic plenum design around the carburator would be pretty much the same.
