I think some racing axes have a flat or near flat grind, Tuatahi differentiates between chisel and chisel with a rolled edge, but the rolled edge may just mean that it is an increased convexity. The chisel edge just means that a uniform series of angles is used all along the edge, and the hollow begins somewheres after the 3/4"-1" area of the bit.

What's so Special about Racing Axes, and question on haft length.

Coryphene. Don't quote me on this but I think most racing axes are heavy heads on short handles because the logs they are bucking using that axe are up on a stand. Being that the axe has a shorter distance to fall, it needs a very heavy head to generate the force equal to or exceeding that of a 3.5# head on a 36" haft.
