Johnson was the first to introduce the heavy outboard engine in 1926. It lifted light planes up on a plane at 16 plus miles per hour and some 4-5 knots faster than most thought an outboard was capable of.

Johnson / Evinrude / OMC loopers can make big power, too!

    https://happymarineboats.wordpress.com/2012/01/09/johnson-evinrude-omc-loopers-can-make-big-power-too/
The answer is a gigantic “YES” when dealing with the 2.7 – 3.3 liter “looper” family of engines. Dave Bush racing can (and will) work on anything outboard related. As it stands right now, I don’t know of any group that is making more power out of the looper OMCs. Their full-on race version is showing over 525 hp (NOT on the bottle!).
