    You need at least two sets, (four birds) of young from each pair to test that year's racing. So you back track your numbers by the number of young birds you want for the size loft you have. My loft holds 36 birds. Six paired up for breeding, giving me four young birds making 24 plus the 12 breeders. I'm done.
