Complete the cage installation and do all welding. Determine where you want the front hinge to be. Determine where the rear pin should be. The pin at the back of the swing out must be within 8” of the main hoop. Cut the side bar out of the cage. Now drill the holes in the side bar for the bushings and weld them into the bar.

If you're doing nothing more than HPDE, a bolt in cage (Autopower) would be OK. You'd get SOME protection, SOME stiffening, and a good place to mount a set of harnesses. If you want to go wheel-to-wheel though, there's no substitute for a weld-in cage made by an experianced fabricator.
