    Carmel Fernandez, Sr. was a forty-three year old rookie when he first raced his jalopy on the high banks of San Jose Speedway. Carmel never won a main event (finished 2nd once) but he did win 7 C-race championships during the 1960’s. Carmel was one of the most loved drivers of that era. Carmel died in 1995. Johnny Key
