    On trails, I usually train in larger gears vs. what I race in. Right now my trail bike is setup 35/18 so I can hammer on gravel or open trail sections. For real mountain bike racing I often run 34/20 because real race courses have tech features and are twistier vs. areas that I train in. The smaller gear supports faster acceleration.
