On the original XBox, I believe you could forfeit the race just before striking a wall. If done correctly, the clock will not stop, and the point where you hit the wall is listed as your final time. Regarding getting better at swoop racing, a recent trick I found in the original KOTOR is that you go faster without hitting the final engine shift.

Swoop Racing on PC. So I'm playing through KOTOR for the first time. I just played through Tatooine and did the swoop racing stuff last. I can't seriously believe it was intended to be this difficult.
