One of my 125s is a really old tank too. I believe oceanic as well, and there is no additional bracing besides the perimeter frame on top and bottom. Its in my basement, so I'm not too worried, but like 12 volt man said the thing seems sturdier than my new one.

180gz71. a single 2x6 on a 5' span can handle 1000 lbs. Double them up, front and back, and you are in the 4x6 catagory. A 4x6 can handle 2300 lbs on a 5' span. So if your horizontal uppers are two 2x6s, front and back, you could easily support over 4,600 lbs.

300 Gallon Stand No Center Brace | MonsterFishKeepers.com

    https://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/threads/300-gallon-stand-no-center-brace.746977/
I have seen a few 240 stands without the center brace use a single 2x6. However, I was unsure if the extra 60-gallons (~700 pounds) made that much of a difference. Would double 2x6 support the weight of a 300-gallon tank with no center brace? For the base and side supports, I was planning on using 2x4 to lower the total height of the stand to ...

a couple of questions, did the tank previously have a center brace? and if so was the center brace cut or broken out? if these happen to be the case i would suggest building a a custom tank lid for it something that you can fit snuggly over the top of the tank, doing this will cut down the risk of explosion, when you build the lid for the tank make sure that you use …

Do I Need Center Bracing On Top Of Tank? | My Aquarium Club

I wouldn't risk it, especially if it already had a brace. Although the glass is tempered the manufacturer most likely put a center brace on because during testing it showed that it needed a brace. I would hold off setting up your aquarium until you can get the supplies to make a brace for it or buy a new brace and replace it yourself.

2x6 top and 2x4 bottom frame is enough. No need for center bracing. On plastic trimmed tank's, all that's needed is the corners to support. Wood screws and wood glue is all that's needed to secure it. The design keeps the frame from racking, especially without plywood skin. Yes, in have a 6', 125 :

DIY Stand without center brace? - REEF2REEF

A better place. Only trouble with wood for a 6' long stand with no center brace is the necessary size of the front beam. It just takes up a large amount of your opening. As much as I like working with wood myself, I'd probably pay someone to weld up a steel stand if I was doing a 180. I hate center braces too.

You could buy a 3 x 18 x 1/4 thick strip of acrylic or polycarbonate plastic and glue it to the bottom side of the broken center brace. Click to expand... At $225 that is a little high for a broken tank. If you can't find a better deal I would tell him about the cost of …
