The th400 is the cheapest to build, but if you use a th400 and you want to switch to a glide later, then the driveshaft will have to redone. Dimmensionally the glide and th350 are the same. The TH350 uses a mechanical kick down switch, whereas the TH400 uses an electric one. The electric kick down is much easier to set up, espescially if you are doing an LS Swap, They do both have an aluminum case, and three forward gears. Although the gear ratios are nominally different.

A well built ( built for racing ) T350 is perfect for racing, there lighter and use less power as stated before. But never start a burnout in 1st gear with a T350, always start in 2nd gear and the life of the trans will double. I have one in my mid 10's 66 nova and it runs great for 3 years now. You will run faster with a TH350 since they don't have as much internal power loss as the TH400. About the OD's, its the 2004R that has the best gear spacing. It has a taller first gear than the 700R4, but 2nd gear is spaced much closer to first. That along with less internal power loss in the 2004R means you usually run faster with it.

The TH350 has something similar to the TH400, which is its three forward gears with less rotating mass. On the other hand, the TH350 may need expensive components to be on par with the powerglide or TH400 to handle all the racing you may need without intermediate sprag or snapping the input shaft.

The TH350 being 2.52-2 first ratio, 1.52 2nd, 1-1 3rd. TH400 being 2.48, 1.48, 1.00. Major differences are the TH350's lack of a rigidly mounted center support, use of a large diameter sun shell (drive shell), as opposed to the TH400's use of a sun shaft, and a TH350 uses a smaller diameter low/reverse roller clutch.
