In 1949, TVR built its first original chassis. The Hotchkiss-style rear suspension used the live axle from a Morris Eight, and the front suspension was of an independent trailing-arm design. The engine was a Ford 1172cc sidevalve from a 1936 van, tuned to 35 hp.

TVR Motorsport History TVRs have raced around the world since their inception. Trevor's very first cars, TVR 1, 2 and 3, were all designed for sprinting and racing. 1962 saw a Le Mans attempt with the Grantura, the birth of the Cobra beating Griffith in the USA and numerous successes for the marque in club racing wherever it raced.

In 1949 the first TVR chassis was made with a live rear axle from a Morris Eight with independent trailing arm front suspension. Using an old 1,172 cc Ford side valve engine with 35 hp, the body was made in aluminium and painted in British Racing Green. TVR Number One no longer exists as within a year it was crashed and broken for parts.

The first Grantura appeared in 1958 and the model was sold until 1967, spread across five generations from Mark I to Mark IV, and including the 1800S. TVR started exporting chassis to America very early on in the 1950s. Jack Griffith was a Long Island Ford dealer who liked to race and he got his hands on a Grantura. Griffith dropped a 289 Windsor Ford V8 into his Grantura MkIII. Acceleration was even better than Griffith and Dick Monnich, an American associate of TVR, had hoped.

This is our tribute to the successful history of Jaguar and TWR. Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR) was founded in 1976 in Kidlington near Oxford England. They worked with different car makers before they started with Jaguar XJS in 1982. In the period 1982 to 1984 TWR build 7 of these cars. Car number 5 was built LHD.
