Ukulele String Thickness Guide (Order and Gauges Explained!)

    https://fretfolks.com/ukulele-string-thickness/
Ukulele strings are usually different thicknesses (also called gauges). For example, on a Soprano ukulele in standard “high-g” tuning, the E string is usually the thickest and the G string is usually the thinnest. However, in some cases the G and A strings are the same thickness. If you need a refresher on string names, here’s a snapshot:

Ukulele bracing - FineWoodworking

Ukulele bracing. While I wait for the thickness sander (ship date pushed back again) I’m digging into other aspects of uke building…. I can’t find anything definitive on the bracing of the back and soundboards. I’ve found patterns and photos but nothing about the how and why of it. The book that started this whole adventure is almost ...

Building a Ukulele: Voicing | Ukulele Magazine

    https://ukulelemagazine.com/stories/building-a-ukulele-voicing
I start with the top and back with the soundhole cut, rosette inlaid, and sanded on a drum sander to .080–.085 inches thick for the top and .085–.090 inches on the back. This thickness varies according to species of wood, the stiffness of a particular board, and even the pitch the wood makes as it goes through the sander.

The narrower the brace the more chance of the brace 'telegraphing' through the top, ie being visible. Narrow braces (1/8" and thinner) are usually associated with thin tops and lattice design as a thin top .040"-.060" (im talking classical guitars here, ie Smallman) requires more structure for stability.

The braces that I used for the ukulele were about 5mm thick and 1.5cm tall. I would recommend gluing the braces on one at a time (even though I am evidently gluing all three on at once in the image below). Make sure that the braces are well attached by checking for even glue squeeze out along the length of each brace.

Ukulele Bracing Evolution: Asymmetrical Lattice Bracing

    https://rodriguezukuleles.wordpress.com/2014/09/19/ukulele-bracing-evolution-asymmetrical-lattice-bracing/
Tommy has been experimenting with various design elements, one of which is “asymmetrical lattice” bracing on tenor, concert, and even soprano sized ukes. I should add that this is not exactly new territory for him. Tommy has been using variations of this bracing system on his concert classical and flamenco guitars for 10+ years with ...

Brace Stiffness Calculations - Part I - Ukuleles by Kawika

    https://ukuleles.com/applying-technology-to-building/brace-stiffness-calculations-part-i/
By putting in the 0.1″ thick layer, you’ve made the new composite brace stiffer by effectively increasing the width of the brace by a factor of 1.0/0.5 = 2.0 (the new effective width divided by the old width without the insert); so the new brace is twice as strong.

Ukulele Sizes: All You Need to Know - Live ʻUkulele

    https://liveukulele.com/lessons/ukulele-sizes/
Baritone Ukulele: Scale length: 19-20 in./Total length: 30 in. The baritone ukulele is the biggest of the standard sizes and the usual D-G-B-E baritone tuning requires a unique set of knowledge. Because it’s tuned a fourth down at D-G-B-E, the baritone uke is tuned like a guitar missing the two top (lowest) strings.
