Re: Determining shift point. #7. Post. by supernova » Mon Sep 14, 2009 12:30 pm. I agree with John on the converter being to big. Here's one reason why. A dual plain intake will only flow good to about 6500 rpm's and if your converter is 6000 that's only a 500 rpm difference if your converter stalls that high.

The first step of determining the shift points is to understand the gear ratios and tire size of each car and how that translates to the actual torque applied to the ground. i have put the data into a small table below:

Wondering what RPM to shift at when drag racing

There are only 2 ways I know of to figure out where your shift point is. 1. Take it to the dyno and get a power chart that way you can mathetically calculate the optimum shift points for each gear based on your spcific power band....remember shift points changes for each gear for maximum power application..you don't just take it to 5800 in first and then in 2nd and then …

Drag Racing - Points to Remember - Tutorialspoint

In fuel class cars, pedalling is the process of adjusting the throttle which will prevent the loss of traction. Almost all drag racers use a tachometer to judge the shift points. Crossing the finish line needs bracket racing process only. If a car has a huge lead, it is advisable to slow down before crossing the finish line to avoid a breakout.

Ideal Shift Points - Calculated for Various Configurations

So, the simplest way that I am aware of to determine the ideal shift point for your vehicle is to plot the tractive force in each gear vs. road speed. There is obviously overlap in road speeds for different gears. The gear that gives you the highest thrust is …

The Best RPM To Shift Gears - Easy Guide - Your Data …

In Practice It Is Harder Than It Looks. Maybe surprisingly, racing car drivers rarely shift gears at the best RPM. The fastest possible acceleration theory above is clear enough. But when you start to do it for real, knowing what the best RPM to shift gears is actually more involved than it first seems. As a result there is plenty “good advice” floating about paddocks on this subject:

The Right Transmission for Your Drag Car - RacingJunk …

However, unless you’ve got a manual automatic or have a modified trans, the shift points are probably going to be just below the beginning of the major part of the torque curve of your engine or just inside that “sweet spot” in the RPM/torque band. Either way, you end up missing out on the major part of the torque your engine can produce.

Shifting for Fastest Acceleration - When to Shift for Best …

The end goal is to have as much torque hitting the pavement as possible, so having your car in the right gear during an acceleration run is key to extracting the most performance. Every car is ...

shift points, vs finish line r.p.m - Don Terrill’s Speed-Talk

    https://www.speed-talk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19260
Optimum shift point for low et is about maximizing torque thoughout the run. In order to acheive low et, you must have acceleration (G's or a) at an absolute maximum, at all times, for the entire run. To maximize acceleration (F=ma), you have to maximize F, which in this case is force at the rear wheels. F=T/d.
