25 is plenty wide for 2.35" tires and lighter than wider rims. I see no need to go wider for XC racing stuff. 30 starts to get pretty damn wide and when you put on the narrower tire for faster/shorter courses the resulting tread pattern will not be idea. 30-35mm is enduro 2.3-2.5 tire width range IME.

I too have the 22" XC's, but I find that the 23's not only add more ground clearence, they: - Roll over obstacles better... My most noticeable difference. - Does not bury the bumper on a steep downhill to flat transition as easy as 22" tires would. (Highly recommend for downhills). - A little skinnier than the 22" tires...

One of the nice things about the Rekon is that you can get it in widths that you don’t often find for cross-country tires, like 2.6″. The 2.4″ MaxxTerra version hits the sweet spot for most riders, though, with a solid amount of grip and only 840 grams in weight. The 2.25″ version in MaxxGrip is a faster-rolling, less grippy version.
