VW makes it, Chevy shakes it.. Summit's single stage paint is not Kirker from my understanding, but it's made by the same manufacturer. Call Summit, they'll tell you who it's made by. Summit also has a new 2 stage, base / clear, line that's not made by the same company that makes the single stage stuff.

A standard, and a high solids clear. Now onto my experience with it. The base shoots very easy. Good coverage, doesn't run overly easy. Sets a little slow being a supposed single stage so watch your metallics for sagging and make sure your last coat or two are shot a little light to avoid the sags in the metallic.

I talked to a summit guy at the Detroit Autorama and he told me the paint was made by sherwin williams.

Word on the street is that the Summit paint is Dupli-Color, which is REALLY Sherwin-Williams. I haven't sprayed any but most paint stores have a second line of products - DuPont, for example, has Nason. Our former PPG store just converted to Sikkens (they have several other brand names too) with the cheap line being Wanda.

BTw, I called Summit and talked with one of their paint people. He said that the paints in their single stage line is made by Coventry Coatings in New York. I googled it and it says they own Kirker. He said that the paints in their 2 stage line of paints is made by another manufacturer who has requested that they not reveal their name. Save Reply

I actually just finished painting my 4th gen. with summit racing paint. turned out pretty good for painting in a non-ventilated garage , i only used the paint i didnt use there primer or clear coat, but for the price it was a great deal. Summit doesn't make there own paint. They just buy it and put there name on it. I'm sure eastwood does the same. I don't know for sure but I'm guessing that being just a middle man they are buying paint with cost being more a factor the quality so there is still room to mark it up and keep it affordable.
