There are sources suggesting that there was racing at Altamont as early as the 30s. The current facility opened as a 1/2 mile dirt oval in 1965. The 1/2 mile oval was paved and the 1/4 mile paved oval was added by July, 1966. The track operated until 1969, and from 1973-1974, 1976-1978, 1980-1983, in 1991, and from 1995.
