raytracing - Ray Tracer Camera - Orthographic to ...

    https://stackoverflow.com/questions/52457986/ray-tracer-camera-orthographic-to-perspective-projection
In orthographic projection, the rays through each pixel would have the same direction, as if the rays originated from a camera behind the screen placed at infinite distance. For perspective projection, the camera has to be placed at a finite distance behind the screen. Each ray should originate from the camera and go through each pixel of the screen.

The camera buffer needs to be accessed by the raytracing path as well. To this end, we modify CreateShaderResourceHeap and add a reference to the camera buffer in the heap used by the raytracing. The heap then needs to be made bigger, to contain the additional reference // #DXR Extra: Perspective Camera // Create a SRV/UAV/CBV descriptor heap.

In an orthographic view we can simply use the pixel’s image-plane posi-tion as the ray’s starting point, and we already know the ray’s direction is the view direction. The procedure for generating orthographic viewing rays is then: compute u and v using (4.1) …

Lot of noise with Orthographic camera and Ray Tracing ...

    https://forum.unity.com/threads/lot-of-noise-with-orthographic-camera-and-ray-tracing.901157/
When I set y camera to orthographic, there is a lot of noise added to the Ray Tracing Global Illumination. This amount of noise disappears instantly when the camera is set to perspective. There is already a denoiser that makes two passes on the noise. Isn't there something I can do about that? FOXAcemond, May 29, 2020 #1 auzaiffe Unity Technologies

the ray intersects two triangles, but only the first triangle hit, T 2, is shaded. A basic ray tracer therefore has three parts: 1. ray generation, which computes the origin and direction of each pixel’s viewing ray based on the camera geometry; 2. rayintersection, whichfinds the closest object intersecting the viewing ray; 3. shading, which computes the pixel color based on the …

Visually, we find an orthographic projection obviously less natural than a perspective projection, however this form of projection is nonetheless useful in some cases. Sim City is also an example of game that was rendered with an orthographic projection (image above). This gives the game a unique look. Projection Matrix and Ray-Tracing
